Sunday 19th May Juniors from Twickenham Rowing Club, Radnor House School and St James School competed against each other in the first of a Local Junior League set up by TwRC to encourage juniors who wouldn't be able to race in formal regattas to be given the chance to develop race experience with local schools and juniors.
The day kicked off at lunch-time with J11 - 13 from TwRC and RHS competing in Explore Rowing Quads on the water directly outside the club. The TwRC Boys put in a valiant effort but were overpowered by RHS who won by a length, RHS then raced against another boat from their own school in the Final. The Girls event was a straight Final and RHS went on to take another win.
On land all Juniors partook in a 500m challenge, with the overall score being 3 wins each for TwRC and RHS.
St James took a full sweep of wins in some very exciting races which ran from Radnor House School down to the Yacht Club on Eel Pie Island. The races were challenging with bends in the course encouraging the juniors to consider their lines and racing strategies.
On the water the indoor racing took place over 1000m and again St James School showed they ruled the clubhouse that day winning in both J14 and J15 events. RHS followed closely with a couple of Second Places.
We would like to say a massive thank you to all the parents who came to support the racing, and to Mark Calvin, Chihiro Calvin, Josh Davidson, Scott Taylor, James Traynor and Jacqui Johnston for making the event a success.
