We are a Remenham Club that has a set of very rapidly expanding senior squads with a strong development pathway in place for new recruits including the best athletes from St Mary's University and the GB start programme. It's an exciting time for the senior squads at Twickenham RC.
The men's and women's squads train in parallel with two key peaks to our year – the Women's Head and the Head of the River at the end of spring, and Women's Henleyand Henley Royal Regatta in summer. Winter training is focused on improving base technique, endurance and strength, with an emphasis on long steady-state outings in small boats and time spent in the gym and on ergs. Summer training is geared towards crew building and finding maximum speed over shorter distances.
Training is tough but flexible… we train six days per week, but squad members can complete a number of those sessions in their own time, either at the club or elsewhere, with all training captured in our online shared training diary. The facilities and support for the group are excellent – we have access to a first class fleet of boats ranging from 1x to 8+, including Empacher, Filippi, and Hudson shells, plus first class land training facilities. Practically every session is coached, often using video analysis. We test regularly, on the water and off, so that everyone knows where they are against their personal aims and within the squad.
