WORLD CLASS START PROGRAMME
The World Class Start centre at Twickenham was established in 2013 and offers the WCS athletes exceptional support and encouragement to enhance their performance journey as individuals and as a squad.
The Centre has strong links to local schools and universities, including St Mary’s Twickenham – alma mater of Olympic medallists Moe Sbihi and Karen Bennett, both former WCS athletes.
Athletes come from a variety of backgrounds: talent transfers from other international and semi-pro sports, rowers who have taken the step up from club rowing as well as those with no prior training history.
The Twickenham World Class Start Centre’s recent achievements include:
-
Callum Dixon winning Gold at the U23 European Championships in Kruszwica, Poland
-
Oliver Quitmann – winner of M2x and 2nd in M4x representing England at the Home International Regatta 2019 and Henley Royal Regatta 2019 Diamond Sculls qualifier.
