Five Twickenham RC boats christened with new names

Updated: 4 days ago

Following Twickenham RC's thrilling Pudding races, members and their families gathered in front of the boat house as several notable TwRC members were honoured with their names immortalised on boats for rowers to enjoy for years to come.

Dominque Field, Paul McCarter, John Sewell, and Aidan Thompson, along with TwRC's 150 Club have contributed to success not just on the water but in building the community and serving the club in numerous ways. John summed up the spirit of the day and the club best, saying "If the people who row in this boat have half as much fun as I did over the last 60 years of rowing, good luck to you!"

Dominique Field has been a stalwart member of the club for many years, as a longstanding member of the masters women squad and more recently the club squad, while volunteering across a range of club activities including Learn to Row and the improvers squad.

Paul McCarter has been a shining example of contributions to TwRC, having been captain, chair, president, house steward, while teaching many people how to row and a number of years to the Master's women while being a pretty good sculler himself.

John Sewell first came to TwRC in 1959 to row, joining the club three years later and over the years has been treasurer, chairman, and is currently a vice-president. As a member of the Masters squad for many years, John has also represented the club internationally and has been a tremendous source of guidance and club history.

Aidan Thompson came to TwRC over seven years ago, bringing with him the feistiness that he has carried to two world championships representing Twickenham. In the doubles boat that now bears his name, Aidan has won multiple national-level competitions.

For more than 50 years, the 150 Club has been a way for TwRC members to support the running and future of the club. A huge thank you to the dedicate group who keeps the 150 Club going and to everyone who contributes financially.

Additionally, five lucky club members also won a raffle to name a boat during the draw at the annual club dinner earlier in December. The winners are Gabi Callow, Evleen Man, Austin Bainger, Genevieve Siddons, and Steve Parker and the names they've selected will be approved in an upcoming committee meeting and then officially unveiled.
