Christmas Pudding Races result in thrilling finish

Updated: 4 days ago

The 2025 edition of the Christmas Pudding Races were held at the club on Sunday 14th December, placing Twickenham Rowing Club members from all squads into mixed boats to determine who would get bragging rights and the all-important prize - a festive pudding!

Following a breakfast feast in the club, names were drawn from each of the crews to make up the boats for the junior quads and adult 8s competitions. All squads were represented including juniors, development, club, masters, and seniors.

Special guest Aidan Thompson was on hand and stepped in to fill a seat in one of the 8s, bringing much joy to several of the development squad members in the boat with him who get to say that their first ever race was with a member of the Senior GB team.

Friends, family, and those club members that just wanted a day off, watched from the bank of Eel Pie Island as the racers sprinted to the finish line. Among the juniors, team Blitzen was the top quad while team Stuffing was the winning 8 for the adults.

After the races were complete and the boats were put away, the club members stayed on the hard to celebrate the winners of the race and name "best dressed" for the day while also christening five new boat names honouring club members before heading back inside to the bar.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the day such a success including who organising the day, preparing food, racing, cleaning up, and much more.
