The 101st Twickenham Regatta took place over the bank holiday weekend where clubs from across the southeast enjoyed a days racing in the sunshine. There were a number of changes this year with the course being both shortened to 850m and racing taking place in an upstream direction. The new finish line allowed for greater views of the full course with the magnificent Richmond Hill as a backdrop. Twickenham tied with Kingston Rowing Club with six wins apiece with local MP Munira Wilson on hand to present prizes.
Both club senior mens and womens eights secured victories over local rivals Sons of Thames and Vesta respectfully with the Masters Men’s H boat squeaking home by a canvas over Maidstone. There was a Twickenham on Twickenham final in the Masters C double sculls with Dean Tranter and Ed Tofts taking on Mike Dowell and Rory Bryant with the latter proving eventual winners. Stephen Parker, Al Copland, James Boyd, Joe Greenleaf and Branwen Phillips took home the Open Coxed Four pot with a narrow 2ft win over Kingston. Elizabeth Garbett, Lauren Walker, Amy Blakey and Emily Rose Schmidt completed a fine days racing for Twickenham by winning the womens quad against Brentford by 4 lengths.
